One Idea a Day

This realization just came to me that in order to master one product skill I need to practice it for 10000 hours. Malcolm Gladwell in his book, Outliers, says that anyone can master a skill with 10,000 hours of practice. Hence, I decided to do like I used to do when playing guitar, playing everyday at least 30 mins.

One might argue that at work I’m already practicing my job for 8 hours a day. True! But a lot of what I do is noise: coordination, presentations,  grooming, influencing, writing specs, answering emails etc. If I step back, what I think it’s the main product skill to master is the ability to solve somebody’s problem in simple ways!

So I decided to take on this challenge: solve one problem a day. However, it shouldn’t be from the field I’m working in! It could be, but preferably not! Hence, my task is to observe people around me, talk to them and identify a problem that they have and come up with a product that will solve it.

Now, I need to find a moment in the day and set it in my calendar and make sure I do it for 21 days, until it becomes a habit.

Let’s begin!
